What to do about cats who 'miss' the litterbox

Some cats (especially older ones, with a bit of dementia) just never seem to get the knack of consistency with actually hitting the litter in their box.  Their droppings hit the top edge of the box, or down the side of it or even on the floor near it.  Sometimes the box just isn't big enough, but the problem is usually that you aren't cleaning it often enough - such as every single day (like you should be doing)!  Remember, cats prefer to eliminate outdoors.  But if your cat can't go outside, it wants its box to resemble a place it would choose to go, were it outside.

Would you want to use a commode that hadn't been flushed in days, hmmm?
