Many new cat 'owners' wonder about toy selections for their furry friends, especially kittens. Typically, a young cat can (and will) have fun with things that you wouldn't expect, such as an empty paper bag or just a wadded up piece of paper. And though cats actually are equipped to see certain colors, a toy's color really doesn't interest your cat. In order to get their attention, patterns and contrast with the floor make more of a difference.
Of course, most of this applies to kittens and young cats in general. Older felines will rarely have any interest in batting the kitten toy around. Naturally, there are exceptions to that and a little 'nip rubbed onto the toy seems to please just about any cat. But overall, cats will get bored real fast with any toy.
Just remember that it's your love and attention they want more than anything else. The toy is going to be a lot more fun (for you and your cat) if you are part of the game!
